In the 1950’s, this was THE baking contest to win. From Pillsbury’s 6th Grand National $100,000 Recipe and Baking Contest, these are all the winning recipes. Star of the show was the “Open Sesame” Pie. The pie won Mrs. Bernard A. Koteen the Grand Prize of $25,000. The $7,500 winner was a recipe for a Butterscotch Chewy Cake; the $3,000 award went to Rosy Apple Whirls and $2,500 landed on a Swedish Ripple Coffee Cake; $2,000 was given to Caramel Cream Sandwich Cookies. Five recipes garnered the $1,000 price: Coffee Cloud Sponge Cake, Egg Baskets, Teen Bean Bake, Split Seconds Cookies and Butter Cream Orange Cups. Such a great piece of history and full of good recipes, fifth in a series that continues today!
