Synopsis
In the 1950’s, this was THE baking contest to win. From Pillsbury’s 9th Grand National $100,000 Recipe and Baking Contest, here are all the winning recipes. The Hershey’s Kiss cookie recipe won the prize of “Senior Grand National Winner” in this little cookbook; they called it Peanut Blossom cookie but it’s basically the Hershey’s Kiss cookie. It’s been around forever and I always wondered who came up with it?? This might just be the answer! There are some main dishes that were prize winners, including the 1958 version of Tuna-Au-Gratin – which looks like tuna casserole in a pie crust. Other surprises include some Quick Breads and Yeast Breads. Not so sure about the Scotch Prune Cake?! Is that really a good combination for your stomach? Great little book with something for everyone. Easy enough to follow for beginner cooks, home economics class or even home school students. Such a great piece of history and full of good recipes, ninth in a series that continues today!
