Description

“Honor Among Cooks” compiled by Mary Spahr. Published by Wm. A. Church Co., Ithaca, New York, in 1939, the cookbook is a plastic-comb spiral bound soft cover, measuring 5¼ x 7½ inches with 107 pages. The cookbook is in good gently used condition, the pages are unmarked, flipping through they all looked clean though the first two pages (blank) have what appears to be a water stain on them. The covers have wear, particularly at the spine, and also have several creases.

Synopsis

I’m not sure the origins of the making of this cookbook. I believe it has its roots in World War II as it says at the front that it is “sold to aid refugee children through the American Friends’ Service Committee.” In her introduction, the author says that it originally began as a Christmas greeting to her friends, in the ensuing year war came to many areas of the world and she enlarged the cookbook as a means to help children in affected areas reach safety. Sadly, still holds true in today’s world with the current strifes. Contributors are named.
