“The Jekyll Island Cookbook” cookbook subtitled “A Seasonal Collection of Fine Foods, Beautiful Flowers and Delicious Gifts” by Leigh Baumann. Published by Morris Press Cookbooks in 2002, the cookbook is a plastic-comb spiral bound hard cover, measuring 6 x 8¾ inches with 142 pages. The cookbook is in like new gently used condition, the pages are clean and unmarked. It has been autographed by the author.
The author is a resident of the island and presents a wonderful commentary as well as an excellent history of Jekyll Island. The cookbook is arranged by seasons with six full meals for each season. The menus are meant to be celebrations, both large and small. Southern culture embodies home and family and the cookbook celebrates these values. It includes many down-home, traditional Southern favorites as well as seasonal vegetables including tomatoes, turnip greens, black-eyed peas and corn, along with the wonderful bounty of seafood that is found along the Georgia coast.
